“Devine rising, ya’ll boi” in the words of Holly Swoosh, social media personality, Charleston SC native and brand creator of B.U.M. Holly Swoosh is a graduate of Francis Marion University with a BS in Psychology and a minor in sociology. While being vegan for three years, Swoosh started creating comical videos/skits in 2017. Swoosh’s debut to her comical career began with a show she created called “Charansalachunz” (pronounced CHA-RAN-SUH-LAY-SHUNS) {which is a combination standard English and Geechee/Gullah language} to help “non Geechee people” understand words and phrases used heavily in Charleston, SC. Also, a member of the LGBTQ+ community, Holly Swoosh expresses the importance of informing LGBTQ+ youth that they should not be ashamed of who they are and that they are not alone. “I really think it is important for those of us in the LGBTQ community help educate others” Holly Swoosh covered many relevant topics regarding the LGBTQ+ community, Women’s Equality, Geechee/Gullah language, growing up Christian and more with media correspondent Velvet Graham. During the interview, Swoosh gives insight of what it is like being a lesbian that doesn’t identify as fem or stud, but simply identifies as herself. She speaks about what it was like growing up in a Christian household and the challenges she was faced with once she uncovered her sexuality to her family and friends. Today, Holly continues to grow and expresses how important it is to stay true to self no matter what anyone else may say or think.
