STILL WATERS

STILL WATERS

Jan 09 , 2020

When I was younger, I could remember my mother constantly saying, “Girl, be still. You are always on the go.” Back then I thought that was just her way of controlling me and keeping me sheltered from the world. Instead of listening to those words, I would go even harder; whether that be out with friends, traveling, or simply anywhere but home. LOL. The older I get, the more I realize what those words really mean and the power in being, “STILL!”

We all know that water is a vital form of life. It provides us not only with nutrients, but it is essential in our daily living. Knowing the power that water has, I decided to do my latest photoshoot near a body of water. I recently had a few changes in my life and wanted to go to a place where I could reflect and draw inspiration. While shooting with one of my amazing photographers Byron Davis, I felt inspired to keep moving towards my goals and dreams no matter what obstacles I was faced with. While shooting, ironically, the water was so, “STILL.” It reminded me so much of who and what I’ve become, soft and humble; but strong enough to cut through the rocks because of my patience and persistence.

In that moment I realized how powerful water was in the midst of being, “STILL.”  The issues that I was allowing to consume me, no longer mattered. I felt motivated to keep flowing. I could hear my mothers voice, “Be Still.” It was one of the best shoots I’ve had in a long time. So, as we live out this new decade, I wanted to encourage you to, “Be Still.”  Don’t allow obstacles to get in your way and most importantly don’t allow people to disturb your peace. Learn to detach from things that interrupts your happiness and no longer serves you. Don’t dwell on what has gone and look forward to what’s ahead. Be “STILL!”

Thanks Mom
